TIER 1 Fighter

The Fighter is the balanced all-rounder of the Tier 1 lineup. It has no extreme strengths and no glaring weaknesses, which makes it the most forgiving choice for new players and the most flexible base for an aggressive playstyle. If you cannot decide what to evolve into out of the Biplane, the Fighter is almost always the right answer.

Real-World Inspiration

The generic Fighter in Skyraid.io stands in for the medium-weight monoplane fighters that filled the rosters of every air force in the early war — the Hawker Hurricane, the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, the Messerschmitt Bf 109E. These aircraft were not the fastest or the most heavily armed planes of their day, but they were available in huge numbers and reliable enough to soak up the brunt of the early dogfighting in 1939–1941. They taught the doctrine that later evolved into the legendary Tier 2 fighters: keep your speed up, dive on your enemy from above, fire short bursts, and never get into a turning fight you cannot win.

Playstyle & Tips

The Fighter rewards aggressive, mobile play. With 180 HP and a respectable 11 gun damage you can pick fights with most Tier 1 opponents and come out ahead, especially against unprepared Bombers caught without rocket cover. The two-rocket loadout gives you enough explosive punch to finish off a fleeing enemy or to soften up a ground target before strafing it with guns. The 12-round magazine and short 1.4-second reload mean you can spend most of a fight firing rather than waiting on a reload bar.

Against other Tier 1 planes, prefer head-on passes over extended turn fights. Your speed and damage are good enough to win the merge in most cases, and breaking off after the first pass lets you reset and re-engage with the initiative. Save your sprint for closing distance to a fleeing enemy, not for escaping — the Fighter has enough HP to survive most exchanges if you commit fully.

Against Tier 2 planes the calculus changes. A fully-evolved Mustang, B-17, or Lightning will out-trade you in a sustained fight. Treat every Tier 2 like a Bombing Run zone: dodge, maintain distance, and look for opportunities to land your two rockets on a wounded one. Do not chase a healthy Tier 2 unless you have rockets up and a clear escape route.

Evolution Path

At 3,000 XP the Fighter offers a choice between two iconic Tier 2 dogfighters:

Counters and Matchups

The Fighter beats: Biplanes easily, Bombers in any prolonged dogfight, and damaged Interceptors in head-on passes. The Fighter struggles against: full-health Interceptors that refuse to commit, and any Tier 2 plane in open space.
